FAQ - PL

Professional Learning for Teachers

Picture
Q. How many participants can you take in a session?
A. Sometimes it is an entire teaching staff. Sometimes it is a handful of teachers.
I am flexible. I aim to satisfy any scenario. I can even work with multiple schools at one time, if you have organised that! Free quotes are available upon request.

Q. How many sessions can you run in a day?
A. I usually do a single staff PL on the same day as I do workshops with the children; after school for 60-90 minutes.
A few times, I have run it over an entire day, seeing a certain number of staff members at a time from one to two hours.
I am open to suggestion and can send you a free quote based on your needs.

Q. What sort of robots do you have?
A. I have a class set of Dash, Cubelets, Lego EV3 and Lego Spike Prime. In 2024 I bought a class set of Sphero Indi and also Tale-Bot Pros. My most recent purchase was a class set of Coding Express trains! So I have 7 different robots I can use. .

To accompany my robots I have made several resources such as board games, mazes, puzzles, race tracks, train tack templates, a soccer field, sumo wrestling arenas, coloured planks for battling and more! All were created to inspire engagement and encourage students to be challenged in a fun way!

Q. What sorts of things do you cover in a PL?
A. I offer a few topics that schools can pick from.
Usually we cover two or three of these:

1) Why teach coding and robotics?
2) AI for teachers
3) Developing a whole school plan with out current resources
4) Robots I recommend
5) Hands on play with some or all of Robot Man's robots.

Q. What does the school host need to provide?
A. I usually use the same space that I have been in with the children, if applicable.

If you have an available TV or projector then that’s great, but I can set up my own if needed. I also have a good selection of cables and adapters, so I usually have little difficulty connecting to your TV, if available.  Most schools provide me with a couple of tables out front for my robots and other equipment.

I do not need computers or internet access. Any coding the students do will be on iPads that I provide. All robots are battery operated students will not be involved in charging my robots.

Q. Where are you based?
A. I live in Hobart but I travel all over Tassie. I used to visit some Victorian schools, but I don't have plans to do that again. I have been to more than 130 different Tassie schools since I started my Robot Man business back in 2018.
