FAQ - Vacation   Care

Picture
Q. How many participants can you take in a session?
A. The best vacation care group size is 12-24, but can do up to 36 in one session. Session prices are capped at 28. If you have more than 28 in a session it costs $10 extra per participant.

Q. How many sessions can you run in a day?
A. Usually I only visit one Vacation Care Centre a day and they book me for one or two 90-minute sessions. With around 16-25 kids in each session. Occasionally I run three sessions in one day when the organisation has 60 or children turning up.

Q. What ages to you cater for in Vacation Care?
A. My robots best suit ages 5-12 but occasionally I do workshops that also have 3 and 4 year-olds. If there are lots of young ones, then they will need help from grown-ups in addition to me!

Q.What is the best amount of time for each session
A. I always do vacation care in 90-minute sessions.

Typically:
Session 1: 10:30-12:00
Session 2 (if required) : 12:15-1:45
Session 3 (if required): 2:00-3:30

Q. What sort of robots do you use?
A. I have a set of Dash, Cubelets,  Sphero Indi and also Tale-Bot Pros. My most recent purchase was a set of Coding Express trains!

For vacation care, participants get to use two of my robots. I try to mix it up so that each visit is different from the last.

To accompany my robots I have made several resources such as board games, mazes, puzzles, race tracks, train tack templates, a soccer field, and more!

Q. What does the Vacation Care Centre host need to provide?
A. An indoor space. Often about half the floor space of most Vacation Care Centres.
Carpet or no carpet is fine.
I just need a couple of tables out front, near a power-point.

If you have an available TV or projector then that’s great, but I can set up my own if needed.

I do not need computers or internet access. Some of my robots require an iPad, which I will bring!

Q. Where are you based?
A. I live in Hobart but I travel all over Tassie. Most vacation care takes place in or near Hobart, but I often do at least one road trip during each holiday break.

Q. How much does it cost?
A. It depends on the number of sessions and your location
Number of sessions: The more sessions you book, on the same day, the cheaper each session is.

Location: I have divided Tassie into 4 zones. Each Zone has a different travelling expense. Travel expenses really only covers fuel costs, so I think they are very generous and reasonable. I only add $100-$300 for travel, depending on location.

I have made a calculator that easily estimates a quote based on your location and number of desired sessions, HERE
